Valle Crucis Community Park Environmental Educator
This is a part-time, year-round position.
POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Valle Crucis Community Park Environmental Educator has primary responsibility for overseeing Park Environmental Education (E. E.) programming. The Park Naturalist will work 12 months a year, with most programming taking place from June through October. The position
requires the willingness and ability to work non-standard hours for meetings and events. A base salary of $200 per month will be provided to compensate the employee for time dedicated to both internal and external communications, participation in meetings, and completion of other tasks relevant to the role. Payment for programming will be $100 per event.
PARK ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATOR ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Primary responsibility for setting up and implementing the nature table at Music in the Valle and the Saturday nature table:Environmental Education table at Music in the Valle (MITV) 4 pm- 9 pm every Friday night, last Friday in May through the first Friday in September- a learning
station at weekly MITV events (15 weeks) which features a rotating selection of E.E. topics. EE will need to bring live animals to use for interactive education. (safe to handle snakes, bugs, salamanders, etc.)- Environmental Education table – weekly Environmental Education table set up on Saturdays 2 pm-4 pm time may be flexible, but geared towards high traffic times at the park for maximum patron engagement for participants of all ages. Starting on the first Saturday in June through September/October, depending on park patron participation.
- E.E.-related community outreach and communication with Park users and donors, including, but not limited to:
○ Ask A Naturalist – Park visitors are encouraged to submit questions via email or dropbox to be answered by our in-house Park Environmental Educator
○ Wildlife Wednesday Social Posts – native nature/E.E.- related content, including photo(s) and caption to be shared weekly on Park social media platforms
○ Naturalist Report – educational column dedicated to nature-related topics to be shared in the bi-monthly Park e-newsletter - Work with the Executive Director and office manager to develop educational signage or other educational materials for the Park

Seasonal Park Operations Staff

Position Type: Part-Time, Seasonal (May-October)
Location: Valle Crucis Community Park, Valle Crucis, NC
Hours: 10-15 hours per week
Schedule: Primarily weekends (Friday-Sunday) including Friday evenings for “Music in the Valle”

Position Summary:
The Park Operations Staff at Valle Crucis Community Park plays a vital role in ensuring a welcoming, clean, and safe environment for visitors while supporting the Park’s administrative, maintenance, and special event functions. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, interacting with the community, and contributing to the upkeep and success of a beloved nonprofit park.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Visitor Engagement & Special Events Support:
- Primarily responsible for facilitating the parking donation initiative by educating patrons and collecting donations at the Park entrance on weekends (Memorial Day-October)
- Be knowledgeable about Park facilities, history, current events/program offerings, Friend of the Park membership program, and other fundraising initiatives.
- Manage overflow parking when needed to ensure safety of patrons and integrity of Park property.
- Fill out daily checkout sheet per established procedures
- Serve as a representative of Valle Crucis Community Park, welcoming visitors and providing information about the Park’s nonprofit status
- Assist with special event logistics, including set-up, break-down, and event support for Music in the Valle and other community gatherings as needed
- Support the Park office with visitor inquiries, merchandise sales, and donation processing
Administrative & Office Duties:
- Respond to incoming calls, emails, and mail
- Maintain office supplies and Park merchandise inventory
- Process pavilion and event reservations and maintain the reservation calendar
- Assist with donor relations, including sending donation acknowledgements and updating the donor database
Grounds & Facilities Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including mowing, weeding, and caring for memorial areas as needed
- Empty trash, recycling, and Dogi-Pot stations as needed
- Pick up litter around the Park
- Clean and maintain restrooms, ensuring adequate supplies are available
- Report safety hazards to the Executive Director and/or Head of Maintenance
Other Responsibilities
- Monitor individuals and groups using the park to enforce Park policies.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Passion for outdoor spaces and community engagement.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Basic proficiency with computers and office software.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as mowing, lifting, and setting up event spaces.
